Make your Party Special

Party games are a great way to bring people together, break the ice or just provide old friends with new tricks. From easy, no-frills fun to entertaining electronics, here’s a roundup of some of our favourite party games to play with friends and help keep your soirees lively and spirited this holiday season.

Who Am I?

Pick one name for each person playing and stick that name on each person’s back or forehead. Each person gets 20 “yes or no” questions to find out who they are. This game is really funny as each person starts recounting what they know about themselves before asking their next question.

Game of Phones

Perfect for people who can’t stay off their phones, this game involves both physical cards and an app. The premise is simple: everyone grabs their smartphones. One player picks a card and gets to judge that round. The rest of the players have 60 seconds to respond to the card’s prompt with the funniest/weirdest thing they can come up with on their phones.

Classic Card Games

A deck of 52 cards is always fun for players of all ages. It is a beloved past time and whether you are playing it with friends or family. What better party game is there, than your classic card games such as; Jacks twos and eights, poker, Go Fish, Crazy Eights and so much more! What’s more is using playing cards with personalisation, so you will never have to lose your very own set of personalised playing cards.

Scene It?

An interactive head-to-head battle in which players answer trivia questions about films or pop culture. It’s perfect for movie buffs and your aunt who’s had a People Magazine subscription for years. You can even design your virtual-self to look just like you!

Mail Call

Arrange chairs in a circle, using one fewer chair than the number of players (like musical chairs). Have someone start the game by standing in the centre of the circle and saying, “Mail Call for everyone who is wearing red” (or “…has a cat,” or “…has been to Europe,” or “…has kids,” get creative!). Then everyone in a chair who has on red must get up and switch chairs with someone else wearing red, with a few caveats: Players can’t sit back down in their own chair, or the chairs directly next to it. The object of the game is for the person in the middle to get a chair before someone else can. Whoever is left standing delivers the next mail call.

Telephone Pictionary

This is one of those games that never gets old. Here’s how it works: tear paper into small, uniformly-sized squares (eighths is good) and then create stacks of paper in an odd number — say, nine. (The higher the number you pick, the longer the game will last, but the funnier the results will be.) Each player starts with a stack of paper, and writes a sentence on the paper, like ‘I like to eat cheese in the bathtub.’ After everyone is done writing, each player passes their stack to the person on their right, who reads the sentence, moves that piece of paper to the bottom of the stack, and then makes an illustration of the sentence. They then pass to the player on their right, who moves the illustration to the bottom and writes on the top piece of paper a sentence that they think describes the illustration. This can produce pretty hilarious results — and it’s always funny to look through the papers afterwards to see the evolution of each sentence.
